Desiderata (post)Moderni Vai serenamente in mezzo al rumore e alle difficoltà, e ricorda quali opportunità ci possono essere per tirarla in lungo oziando un pò. Per quanto possibile senza pagare, cerca di essere a credito con tutti i commercianti. Di' la tua verità ad alta voce e chiaramente, ma ascolta gli altri, anche gli ottusi e gli ignoranti; potrebbero essere i tuoi capi. Evita le persone rumorose e aggressive, stanno cercando di venderti qualcosa. Se confronti la tua busta paga con quella degli altri puoi diventare vanitoso e amaro; perché ci saranno sempre paghe più alte o più basse della tua. Gustati le pause del tè così come quelle per il pranzo. Tieniti interessato alla tua carriera, per quanto umile; con quelle code per il sussidio di disoccupazione, lunghe come sono, faresti meglio. Usa cautela nei tuoi affari, poiché il mondo è pieno di inganni. Ma che ciò non ti accechi fino alla possibilità di farne uno anche tu. Molte persone scioperano per avere paghe più alte, e dappertutto, le file per il sussidio di disoccupazione sono piene di coloro che hanno fallito. Sii te stesso; (questa parola - eff - deve essere un errore).....ogni altro. Soprattutto, non fingere affetto, a meno che, naturalmente, non ci si guadagni soldi a farlo. E non essere cinico riguardo all'amore; poiché nella nostra società super-tecnologica da internet condotta, ci sono cose di maggior profitto riguardo alle quali essere cinici. Di fronte all'aridità e al disincanto si sta meglio a fumare erba. Prendi con gentilezza il consiglio degli anni, e prenota quella chirurgia plastica al volto il prima possibile; dopo tutto è difficile che tu riesca ad arrivare molto prima di Michael Jackson. Coltiva un ampio saldo in banca per proteggerti da disgrazie improvvise. Ma non torturarti con eventi immaginati; la realtà è tetra di per sé. Molte paure nascono dalla fatica e dalla solitudine, ma la maggior parte nascono dall'alzarsi la mattina. Al di là di un sano scetticismo, sii fermo con gli altri: Tu sei un figlio dell'universo tanto quanto gli altri; tu hai il diritto di essere qui: ma gli altri ce l'hanno? E sia che tu lo abbia chiaro o no, senza dubbio qualcuno, da qualche parte sta tentando di arraffare ciò che hai. Color Perciò sta in guardia dai tuoi nemici, chiunque tu pensi che essi siano, e qualunque siano le tue fatiche e aspirazioni, nella confusione della vita tieni sempre i tappaorecchi a portata di mano. THE MODERN DESIDERATA Go placidly amid the noise and hassle, and remember what chances there may be for skiving. As far as possible without paying be on credit terms with all traders. Speak your truth loudly and clearly but listen to others, even the dull and ignorant; they may be your boss. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are trying to sell you something. If you compare your wage packet with others you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be higher and lower wages than yours. Enjoy your tea-breaks as well as your lunch. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; with the dole queues the length they are, you'd better. Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to the chance of pulling a fast one yourself. Many persons strike for high pay, and everywhere the dole queues are full of those who failed. Be yourself; eff everyone else. Especially, do not feign affection, unless of course there's money in doing so. Neither be cynical about love; for in our high-tech Internet-driven society, there are much more profitable things to be cynical about. In the face of all aridity and disenchantment, you're better off smoking grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, and book that facelift as early as possible; after all, you can hardly be much earlier than Michael Jackson. Nurture a large bank balance to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings; reality is grim enough. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness, but most are born of getting up in the morning. Beyond a wholesome skepticism, be ruthless with others:  You are a child of the universe, no less than anyone else; you have a right to be here:  but do they? And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt someone, somewhere is planning to grab what you've got. Therefore be on guard against your enemies, whoever you conceive them to be, and whatever your labours and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep earplugs handy.
